Mexican Navy plane crashes in Texas during medical mission

(MENAFN) Mexico’s Navy said on Monday that one of its aircraft went down near the coast of Galveston, Texas, after a medical transport mission encountered difficulties.

Authorities confirmed that five people lost their lives in the incident, while two others were found unharmed. One additional individual is still listed as missing.

The Navy explained that the aircraft, identified as a King Air ANX-1209, was carrying eight passengers, including a minor, at the time of the crash. Those on board included four naval officers and four civilians who were participating in a humanitarian mission linked to the Michou y Mau Foundation, an organization that supports children suffering from severe burns.

Officials said the child being transported for specialized medical care was among those who died.

Search and recovery efforts were conducted by US authorities, with rescue teams locating the aircraft in the ocean.

Mexico’s foreign ministry said in a statement shared on social media that it extends condolences to the families of the victims and has coordinated with local officials through its consulate in Houston to assist those affected.

According to reports, the plane was in the process of approaching for landing when it crashed.

The accident occurred during conditions of heavy fog that had spread across parts of Texas.
