Poll shows record approval for leader of Austria's far-right Party
(MENAFN) A recent poll shows unprecedented support for Herbert Kickl, head of Austria’s far-right Freedom Party (FPO), as his approval rating climbs to 35%, marking a new high. The FPO itself enjoys 37% backing, nearly double that of the ruling Austrian People’s Party (OVP), which trails at 19%.
The survey also reveals a sharp decline in confidence for Chancellor Christian Stocker, who now holds only 10% approval—the lowest in nearly a decade. Coalition partner Social Democrats (SPO) stand at 18%, with just 6% favoring Vice-Chancellor Andreas Babler as chancellor, while the liberal Neos party has 10%, with 8% supporting leader Beate Meinl-Reisinger.
Kickl’s party continues to draw attention for anti-immigration rhetoric and controversial statements targeting Muslims and migrants, including recent incidents evoking Nazi-era imagery.
