Kremlin Says Putin Willing to Have Discussions with Macron

(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin stands prepared for discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron contingent upon reciprocal political commitment, Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov informed media Friday.

Macron recently signaled openness to engaging Putin, who likewise expressed hope for dialogue with the French leader during a public direct line session Friday, Peskov stated, noting that if "there is mutual political will, Macron's position statement can be viewed positively."

Macron announced Friday following the European Union (EU) summit in Brussels that the EU must prepare for Russian dialogue should current initiatives fail to secure enduring peace in Ukraine.

The French president observed that under such circumstances, negotiations with Putin would prove necessary and beneficial, emphasizing the EU should establish shared parameters for such talks beforehand.

On July 1, the Russian and French leaders conducted a telephone conversation, with discussions centered on potential resolutions for the situations in Ukraine and the Middle East.
