Cold Weather in Gaza Claims Infant’s Life
(MENAFN) Another Palestinian infant has succumbed to the severe cold in the Gaza Strip, the territory’s Health Ministry reported on Thursday, as a harsh cold spell continues to take lives amid worsening living conditions.
According to a statement from the ministry, one-month-old Saeed Asaad Abideen passed away due to a sudden plunge in temperatures.
This tragedy raises to 13 the number of people who have died after being admitted to hospitals because of the recent cold wave and extreme weather conditions across Gaza.
Earlier, Gaza’s Civil Defense issued a warning on Wednesday, highlighting that the intense cold wave poses a significant threat to children’s lives.
Many families are left without sufficient shelter or heating amidst the deteriorating humanitarian situation caused by Israel’s genocide in the enclave.
Hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians are enduring extremely harsh conditions after the destruction of their homes and forced displacement. Numerous families are now living in tents or improvised shelters, struggling with severe shortages of blankets, heating equipment, and winter clothing as temperatures continue to fall.
Gaza’s government media office has repeatedly accused Israel of neglecting its responsibilities under the Oct. 10 ceasefire and humanitarian protocol, including the delivery of shelter materials and the provision of 300,000 tents and mobile homes for displaced families.
