Trump Picks Troy Edgar as El Salvador Envoy
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump unveiled his selection of Troy Edgar as the nation's incoming ambassador to El Salvador on Tuesday, signaling intensified diplomatic focus on Central America.
Writing on his Truth Social platform, Trump praised Edgar's performance since rejoining the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in January. "Since returning to DHS on January 20th, Troy has shown outstanding leadership, delivering strong results in protecting our Homeland, and supporting our America First Agenda. His experience, discipline, and deep understanding of Border Security and Western Hemisphere challenges make him the PERFECT choice for this critical post," the president declared.
Trump emphasized El Salvador's strategic importance as a regional ally, highlighting the partnership forged with President Nayib Bukele. The US leader characterized Bukele as "has been a tremendous ally in the fight against Crime, Cartels, and Chaos, and together, we are building the safest and strongest neighborhood our hemisphere has ever seen."
The nomination carries broader geopolitical weight, according to Trump's statement. "Troy will play a key role in advancing our Western Hemisphere strategy, strengthening cooperation with President Bukele, and ensuring the Safety and Prosperity of BOTH our Nations — A big step toward restoring American Strength across Latin America," he stated.
Edgar currently holds the position of deputy secretary at the Department of Homeland Security. Under US constitutional procedures, the Senate must confirm all presidential ambassadorial nominations before appointees can assume their diplomatic posts.
