US authorizes potential sale of Aegis Destroyer Support to Japan
(MENAFN) The US State Department has authorized a potential sale of Aegis Class Destroyer Support systems and associated equipment to Japan, the Pentagon announced Tuesday.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency estimated the cost of the sale at $100.2 million.
"The proposed sale will improve Japan’s capability to meet current and future threats by ensuring Japan Maritime Self Defense Force’s (JMSDF) Aegis fleet remains ready to provide critical capabilities in the defense of Japan," the agency said.
Lockheed Martin, headquartered in New Jersey, will serve as the principal contractor for the transaction.
