Ex-Royal Marine gets sentenced for Liverpool victory parade attack

(MENAFN) Paul Doyle, a former Royal Marine, was sentenced Tuesday to 21 years and six months in prison for deliberately driving into a crowd at Liverpool FC’s Premier League victory parade in May.

The 54-year-old’s actions injured more than 130 people, according to reports.

Judge Andrew Menary described Doyle’s conduct as extreme, noting he “drove over limbs and crushed prams” and “intended to hurt anyone who got in your way – even children.” While the judge acknowledged Doyle’s earlier convictions, including an incident in which he “bit off a sailor's ear,” these did not increase his sentence, as he had remained out of trouble for 32 years prior to the parade attack.

Doyle pleaded guilty last month to all 31 charges related to the incident. Authorities arrested him after he drove into fans celebrating Liverpool’s 2024–25 Premier League title on May 26. The sentencing underscores the severity of the attack and the lasting impact on the victims.
