J & K Orders Probe Into Santosh Trophy Selection Row
Sports Minister Satish Sharma said the government has taken cognisance of the issues highlighted in the media and assured that the inquiry will be conducted in a time-bound manner. He said any violation of the established merit-based selection policy will invite strict consequences.
“The selection process must be transparent and based purely on merit. Any individual found violating the policy will face severe consequences and appropriate punitive measures,” the minister said in a statement.
The issue has triggered concern among players, coaches, and members of the sporting fraternity, with allegations suggesting that deserving footballers were overlooked during the selection process. Several stakeholders have called for accountability to safeguard the credibility of sports administration in the Union Territory.

They said all relevant records will be scrutinised, and statements of officials involved may be recorded to determine whether prescribed norms were followed.
The Santosh Trophy remains one of India's most prestigious domestic football tournaments, and participation from Jammu and Kashmir is seen as a vital platform for showcasing local talent at the national level.
