Thai Forces Extend Airstrikes Within Cambodia’s Sovereign Borders

(MENAFN) Thailand's armed forces have significantly escalated their military offensive within Cambodia's sovereign borders, penetrating far beyond contested frontier zones, Cambodian Ministry of Defense officials declared Monday.

Thai military operations have now extended aerial bombardment campaigns to Siem Reap province in northwestern Cambodia, according to a ministry statement. An F-16 fighter aircraft deployed two explosive devices near a camp sheltering displaced civilians at 10:00 a.m. local time Monday, the release confirmed.

The intensifying cross-border hostilities have claimed 12 Cambodian civilian lives with 74 additional injuries recorded through 6 p.m. Sunday, Cambodia's Interior Ministry Spokesperson Touch Sokhak revealed during a Monday press conference.

Humanitarian displacement has surged past 403,000 individuals, encompassing roughly 208,000 women and approximately 96,000 children, the spokesperson reported.

Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Cambodian Defense Ministry's Undersecretary of State and Spokesperson, stated that Thai military units maintained continuous artillery barrages targeting numerous sites across Cambodian territory throughout the overnight hours into Monday morning.

The Cambodia-Thailand border confrontation reignited December 7, with both nations attributing initial aggression to their adversary.
