European leaders condemn Bondi Beach shooting in Sydney
(MENAFN) European leaders voiced strong condemnation after a mass shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, on Sunday that left at least 12 dead and 29 injured, according to reports.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called the incident “terrorism,” saying, “There is no place for this hate violence and terrorism in our nation. Let me be clear, we will eradicate it.”
He added, “This is a targeted attack on Jewish Australians.”
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed solidarity, stating, "Europe stands with Australia and Jewish communities everywhere. We are united against violence, antisemitism and hatred." Other leaders, including EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, French President Emmanuel Macron, Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin, Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, condemned the attack and extended condolences to victims and their families.
Additional European leaders, such as Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever, Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, also expressed shock, support, and solidarity with those affected.
