India Expedites Business Visas for Chinese Professionals
(MENAFN) India has accelerated the issuance of business visas for Chinese professionals as New Delhi continues to enhance its relations with Beijing, a media outlet reported on Friday.
The Indian administration has eliminated a layer of bureaucratic examination and reduced visa processing times to under a month, the news outlet stated, citing two unnamed officials.
“We have removed the layer of administrative vetting and are processing the business visas within four weeks,” one of the officials told the media outlet.
Relations between the two countries were strained following a border clash in June 2020, which had led to more rigorous scrutiny of business visa applications for Chinese nationals.
Numerous Chinese companies, including smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi, faced difficulties obtaining visas for their staff, according to various media accounts.
Heightened visa inspections for technical support personnel have also caused production setbacks estimated at $15 billion over four years, the media outlet noted, as many Indian electronics firms rely on importing essential machinery from China.
In July 2025, India reinstated tourist visas for Chinese citizens after a five-year suspension. The following month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi traveled to China for the first time since 2018, meeting President Xi Jinping during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.
“Our relationship has taken a positive direction. There is peace and stability on the borders,” Modi commented at the time.
