Russia Acknowledges North Korean Troops’ Efforts in Mine Removal

(MENAFN) Russia's Kursk region chief publicly acknowledged North Korean military personnel for their role in demining operations on Saturday.

Governor Alexander Khinshtein disclosed via Telegram that engineering specialists from the 528th Engineering-Sapper Regiment of the Korean People's Army assisted in mine clearance activities across Kursk.

The joint effort resulted in the decontamination of approximately 42,400 hectares (104,773 acres) of territory, with more than 1.5 million explosive devices successfully removed, according to Khinshtein's statement.

"This invaluable assistance enables the revival of our borderlands," he stressed.

North Korean state media confirmed Friday that personnel from the 528th Engineering-Sapper Regiment had departed Russia and returned home following the completion of their combat assignment issued by the Workers' Party of Korea in the Kursk region.

The acknowledgment marks a rare public confirmation of North Korean military involvement in Russian territory, highlighting deepening defense cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow amid ongoing regional tensions.
