Sudan Calls for Global Action, Accuses RSF of Genocide

(MENAFN) Sudan has accused the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of perpetrating “genocide” and appealed for the world to pursue genuine accountability rather than offering mere expressions of concern.

Minister Plenipotentiary Faisal Abdelazim Salim Mohamed stated, "Sudan addresses this assembly at the moment of profound national tragedy, and deep international concern," during a high-level UN General Assembly session commemorating the 10th anniversary of the International Day dedicated to honoring victims of the crime of genocide.

He emphasized that civilians in El-Fasher and other regions have endured widespread killings, sexual assault, forced displacement, and the intentional destruction of proof.

He asserted that such actions, "Acts, in their scale and intent, meet the legal definition of genocide," stressing that "These crimes committed by the rapid support forces militia are not hidden. They are documented. They are public. And they demand more than an expression of concern. They demand accountability."

Sudan urged the global community to transform its denunciations into "concrete, lawful, and decisive measures to protect civilians."

Mohamed called for prompt steps to obstruct the movement of weapons and military backing to the RSF through regional and international pathways, impose targeted sanctions on those orchestrating or financing brutality, refuse safe refuge to individuals glorifying violence, and strengthen worldwide cooperation to ensure exported arms do not fall into the hands of non-state armed groups.

He concluded by stressing that "Genocide is not only a crime against its victims. It's a test of the international system itself."
