Militant Violence Leaves Six Soldiers Dead in Pakistan
(MENAFN) Militant violence in northwestern Pakistan claimed the lives of at least six soldiers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, police confirmed Tuesday.
The assault unfolded late Monday in the Manato area of Kurram district, according to a police official at the district emergency control room, who spoke to media by phone.
“We have received reports that six soldiers were martyred and two others injured, while a dozen militants were also killed,” the official said, noting that the military has sealed off the area while police remain unable to reach the site.
Security forces reported killing a local militant commander identified as Usman Khyberi during the clashes.
Despite the scale of the incident, the Pakistani military has not yet issued a formal statement regarding the attack, which occurred near the volatile Afghan border.
The southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have endured persistent militant activity, with Pakistan experiencing a sharp rise in such assaults in recent years.
