UK's Liberal Democrats claims Trump wants to sell out EU, Ukraine

(MENAFN) The leader of the UK Liberal Democrats, Ed Davey, accused US President Donald Trump on Monday of attempting to “sell out Ukraine and the rest of Europe” to Russia. Posting on X, Davey described Trump as a “Kremlin stooge” and urged that such a scenario must not be allowed to happen.

The remarks followed Kremlin comments praising aspects of the new US National Security Strategy as “largely consistent” with Russia’s vision and expressing hope it could provide a basis for constructive engagement on Ukraine.

Davey also called on UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to seize frozen Russian assets and to persuade German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron to do the same during their London visit for talks with Starmer and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the US peace plan.

The comments reflect growing European concern over Washington’s approach. European Council President Antonio Costa urged the US to respect EU domestic political processes, while Germany criticized the new strategy for its “critical tones against the EU.”

Trump himself expressed mild disappointment that Zelenskyy has not yet reviewed his latest peace proposal for ending the Russia-Ukraine war.
