Orban highlights joint efforts with Turkey to promote peace in Ukraine
(MENAFN) Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Monday emphasized that his country and Türkiye are acting in close coordination to support peace efforts aimed at ending the conflict in Ukraine.
Speaking to reporters during his flight to Istanbul, he remarked that "The Turks have been involved in all attempts at reconciliation and, together with the Hungarians, they know that they can only lose in the war, so the two countries often work together to promote peace," according to reports.
Orban noted that the two governments hold annual high-level meetings, explaining that this year’s agenda centers on four priority topics: economic ties and trade, migration concerns, the ongoing war, and energy-related issues.
Referring to Türkiye as a "regional power," he said that these gatherings provide an opportunity for open and friendly discussions with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan about developments across Europe and Eurasia.
He pointed out that frequent consultations have significantly boosted commercial relations, lifting trade from roughly €2–2.5 billion ($2.18–2.73 billion ) to €4.5–5 billion ($5.24-$5.82 billion).
He added that Turkish investments in Hungary have expanded, while Hungarian business activity in Türkiye has also grown.
Orban also underlined that in recent years Türkiye has been the only country to successfully conclude several important arrangements, including facilitating the delivery of Ukrainian grain to African nations.
