UK, Qatar pledge aid for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh

(MENAFN) The United Kingdom and Qatar have announced a joint contribution of $11.2 million to assist over 647,000 Rohingya refugees and local host communities in Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar district, according to reports.

The funding is intended to provide Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to vulnerable refugee households, improving living conditions while reducing environmental damage in and around the camps, the British High Commission in Dhaka stated.

Bangladesh currently hosts more than 1.3 million Rohingya who fled military crackdowns in Myanmar in August 2017. The population faces a prolonged crisis, as repatriation efforts have stalled and international funding continues to decline.

The UN reports that the World Food Program’s operations for Rohingya refugees face a nearly $190 million shortfall, with $172 million needed to sustain essential food and nutrition support.

Without additional funding, the agency warns that food rations could be severely disrupted starting April 2026.
