EU Voices Unwavering Support for Syria

(MENAFN) European Council President Antonio Costa reaffirmed the bloc's commitment to Syria on Monday, marking one year since the collapse of Bashar Assad's authoritarian government.

"A year after the fall of the Assad regime, Syrians are taking steps toward a more stable and inclusive future. The EU stands with Syria, supporting a peaceful, Syrian-led process focused on justice, reconciliation and the rights of all Syrians," Costa posted on US social media platform X.

He emphasized the bloc's dedication to political engagement, critical humanitarian aid, and Syria's recovery and rebuilding efforts.

Assad, who controlled Syria for nearly 25 years, escaped to Russia last December, dismantling the Baath Party regime that had dominated the nation since 1963. Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa's new transitional government took office in January.
