Sara Read

Sara is a senior lecturer in English and Creative Writing at Loughborough University, and a historical novelist. Sara has a special interest in literary and cultural representations of the female reproductive body in the early modern era. She has published an academic monograph, a scholarly edition, several articles and chapters on matters related to pregnancy and reproduction in the seventeenth century. Sara writes for magazines such as History Today, Discover Your Ancestors, and others. She has published two novels set in the 1660s which are about the life and work of a seventeenth century midwife, Lucie Smith: The Gossips' Choice (2020) and The Midwife's Truth (2023). She is currently writing her third novel, which is also set in the 1660s.
