Lebanese President: Negotiations With Israeli Occupation Aim To Stop Attacks
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
BEIRUT, Dec 5 (KUNA) -- Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said on Friday that the negotiations with the Israeli occupation aim at halting hostile acts, releasing the prisoners, setting a timetable for withdrawal of the Israeli troops and settling the controversial points along the "blue line."
Aoun, speaking to a visiting delegation of member states of the UN Security Council, said the talks also aim at averting a new cycle of violence "and because Lebanon is convinced that wars will not lead to positive results.
"Only negotiations can create atmospheres that may led to stability and safety, solutions and spare the Lebanese citizens hardships."
The president told the visitors that that negotiations through the "mechanism commission" are not intended to appease the international community but to serve Lebanon's interests.
Aoun has recently named a civilian diplomatic figure to hold talks with the Israeli sides at the commission meetings, regularly held in the southern frontier town of Naquora.
The commission had originally grouped military officers. It was formed according to the truce agreement reached in November 2024. (end)
