Turkish defense firm ASFAT ink warship sales deal with Romania

(MENAFN) Turkish defense company ASFAT has finalized an agreement to sell a warship to Romania, according to reports from defense sources on Wednesday.

The deal involves the TCG Akhisar, which was completed in 2024 at the Istanbul Shipyard Command. This marks the first time Türkiye has exported a warship to a NATO and EU member state.

ASFAT described the export as a tangible demonstration of the reliability, quality, and technological expertise not only of the company itself but of the broader Turkish defense industry on the global stage.

The company also noted in a statement that military collaboration between Türkiye and Romania has reached a new level.

The warship, to be commissioned as a corvette in the Romanian naval inventory, is expected to enhance regional maritime security and provide significant support for the modernization of the Romanian Naval Forces, the statement added.
