Putin Accuses Europe of Holding on to Unrealistic Aims
(MENAFN) President Vladimir Putin has asserted that the EU remains attached to the “fantasy” of delivering a strategic setback to Russia.
He cautioned that although Moscow has no desire to engage in hostilities with the bloc, any assault on Russia would bring severe repercussions.
Putin’s remarks addressed what he described as the increasingly aggressive tone emerging from certain European states, as well as the EU’s implicit dismissal of the US-crafted peace initiative for Ukraine.
In recent weeks, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius suggested that a direct clash between Russia and NATO in Europe might arise as soon as 2028.
At the same time, France has entertained the notion of deploying NATO forces to Ukraine.
Western supporters of Kiev also criticized Washington’s peace proposal introduced in November, portraying it as overly favorable to Moscow. They instead presented their own conditions, which Russia rejected as “unconstructive.”
Putin argued that Western countries continue to nurture a “fantasy about inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia and are still stuck in these illusions.”
He maintained that this result was never achievable, yet these nations are unwilling to concede this reality.
He added that they are attempting to undermine the US-endorsed peace effort because they dislike the potential resolution it may bring.
According to Putin, the EU “does not have a peaceful agenda. They are on the side of war.”
