Over Eight Hundred Killed in Indonesia Floods, Landslides

(MENAFN) Catastrophic flooding and landslides across Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra provinces have claimed 811 lives while 623 individuals remain unaccounted for, Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) revealed in updated official figures Wednesday.

The BNPB announced through a press statement that 40 tons of emergency relief materials arrived Tuesday, orchestrated by the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs. The shipment contained food provisions, potable water and medical supplies destined for distribution throughout the three disaster-stricken provinces.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto emphasized that the assistance demonstrates the government's commitment to communities impacted by the calamity, noting it is anticipated to "help meet urgent needs, expedite the disaster response process, and provide strength to all parties working to recover from the disaster."

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto declared Tuesday that the administration's immediate focus centers on fulfilling residents' requirements, accelerating socio-economic restoration, and rehabilitating infrastructure damaged by the disaster.
