Zelenskyy Holds Strategic Talks with European Leaders

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he participated in a joint call in Paris with French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to review recent discussions held in Florida with the United States, which were focused on ending the conflict with Russia.

Zelenskyy described the briefing with Ukrainian delegation head Rustem Umerov and US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff as “important,” noting that teams will coordinate schedules for upcoming in-person follow-ups.

The Ukrainian president added that he and Macron engaged in several hours of talks in Paris, concentrating on initiatives to end the war and establish long-term assurances for both Ukraine and Europe.

“Peace must become truly durable … much now depends on the involvement of every leader,” he emphasized.

Zelenskyy pointed out the broader European framework involved in the discussions — including France, the UK, Germany, Poland, Italy, Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Finland, the European Commission, the European Council, and NATO’s secretary general — describing it as a valuable forum for aligning positions ahead of forthcoming meetings.

He explained that the group reviewed the content of the Florida negotiations with the American side and agreed on the necessity of advancing toward a “fair end” to the war.

Umerov, sharing his remarks on Facebook, stated that he had spoken with Zelenskyy after returning from two days of “very productive” talks in the US. He mentioned “significant progress” while acknowledging that certain issues still need further refinement.

“We agreed to maintain close and constant contact as this process continues,” Umerov said, adding that the delegation will soon deliver a full report to Zelenskyy at an upcoming European meeting. “We continue to work for peace for Ukraine.”
