Former Honduran First Lady Hails Trump Pardon for Hernandez
(MENAFN) Former Honduran first lady Ana Garcia de Hernandez commended US President Donald Trump on Tuesday for his choice to pardon her spouse, former President Juan Orlando Hernandez, in connection with the "crime of drug trafficking."
"Yesterday, Monday, December 1, 2025, we lived a day we will never forget. After almost four years of pain, waiting, and difficult trials, my husband, Juan Orlando Hernandez, RETURNED to being a free man, thanks to the presidential pardon granted by President Donald Trump," Hernandez shared on the US social media company X’s platform.
She expressed her gratitude, saying, "Thank you, Mr. President, for giving us hope again and for recognizing a truth we always knew."
Addressing their supporters, she added, "To all the friends who supported us, to those who never stopped praying, defending the truth, and believing in justice: this miracle is yours as well."
Hernandez also emphasized that justice and truth inevitably prevail, referencing the Bible in her statement.
On November 28, Trump revealed his intention to pardon Hernandez, who held the presidency from 2014 to 2022, effectively nullifying the 45-year prison sentence he faced for drug trafficking and related firearm charges.
Hernandez had been found guilty in March 2024 by a federal jury in New York for conspiring to import more than 400 tons of cocaine into the United States, exploiting his presidential authority to advance the drug trade.
Trump, in a post on his Truth Social platform, argued that Hernandez had been “treated very harshly and unfairly.”
