Germany Calls on Israel to Uphold Gaza Ceasefire Deal
(MENAFN) Germany issued a direct appeal Tuesday for Israel to uphold the Gaza ceasefire agreement and substantially increase humanitarian aid flows into the devastated territory.
"Israel, too, must adhere to the ceasefire and, in particular, facilitate even more humanitarian aid. We repeatedly emphasize this to our interlocutors in Israel," Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul told a joint press briefing with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty in Berlin.
Wadephul stressed that maintaining momentum in the truce implementation remains paramount. "The most important thing in the current situation is that all parties continue to participate in the full implementation of the first phase of the ceasefire," he added.
The German foreign minister identified establishing "the stabilization mission to ensure security in Gaza" as a critical priority moving forward.
Germany has also signaled its willingness to contribute personnel and resources to the EU-led Palestinian police training mission, Wadephul announced.
Israel's two-year military campaign in Gaza has resulted in over 70,000 Palestinian deaths. Though Israel and Hamas reached a ceasefire accord on Oct. 10, Israeli forces have persisted with operations inside the enclave despite the agreement.
