The UAE has launched an urgent humanitarian response to the devastating floods and landslides caused by heavy rainfall across Sri Lanka. Coordinated by the Joint Operations Command, the UAE Aid Agency, and the Emirates Red Crescent, the initiative aims to provide swift relief to those affected by the disaster.

Teams from Abu Dhabi Civil Defence are carrying out search and rescue operations in the hardest-hit areas, while essential food supplies and critical shelter materials are being delivered to families impacted by the disaster.

The disaster has resulted in the deaths of at least 355 people, while more than 366 remain missing. Over one million people have been affected, daily life has been disrupted and hundreds of homes have been partially or fully damaged in several districts.

The UAE's rapid response is designed to support recovery efforts and restore stability, reflecting the country's long-standing humanitarian approach of providing immediate assistance to vulnerable communities worldwide. This includes deploying rescue teams, delivering essential food, medicine, clothing, and shelter, and supporting the most at-risk populations during crises.

Humanitarian aid and shelter materials will continue to be sent to Sri Lanka, as the UAE works to alleviate suffering and help accelerate recovery and stabilisation efforts for the affected communities.
