Israeli forces conduct mass arrests amid settler attacks in West Bank

(MENAFN) Four foreign activists, including three Italians and one Canadian, were injured by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank on Sunday, local sources reported. The incident occurred in the village of Ein ad-Duyuk, near Jericho, where the activists were staying in solidarity with Palestinian residents.

According to reports, a group of illegal settlers attacked the foreign activists, leaving three with moderate injuries and one critically wounded. The settlers also stormed a house in a Bedouin community where the activists had been residing and attempted to steal the activists' personal belongings, including their passports and phones. The victims were later hospitalized for their injuries.

In another incident in the central West Bank, illegal settlers destroyed four Palestinian-owned vehicles in eastern Salfit, as confirmed by the official Palestinian news agency Wafa. A group of settlers also raided the al-Masoudieh area near Nablus, vandalizing Palestinian properties.

The Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission, a Palestinian organization, reported that Israeli settlers have carried out 766 attacks against Palestinians and their property in the occupied West Bank just in October.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military conducted extensive arrests in the West Bank on Sunday. Four people were detained in two villages near Nablus, with one detainee reportedly injured during the operation. The Israeli forces also fired tear gas in the town of al-Lubban al-Sharqiya, causing several locals to suffer from suffocation.

In Ramallah, Israeli forces detained three individuals during a raid, and in Sheikh Jarrah, East Jerusalem, a young Palestinian was arrested after reportedly being beaten by soldiers. In Bethlehem, Israeli forces arrested five people, including two former prisoners, following searches of their homes. According to Palestinian sources, at least 55 Palestinians were detained in Israeli military raids across the West Bank since Saturday.

The ongoing violence, coupled with the settlement expansion, has led to a significant loss of life, with more than 1,085 Palestinians killed and over 10,700 injured in attacks by Israeli forces and illegal settlers. Additionally, more than 20,500 Palestinians have been arrested.

Last July, the International Court of Justice issued a landmark ruling declaring Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories illegal and calling for the removal of settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
