Amman, Nov. 30 (Petra) -- Minister of Social Development Wafaa Bani Mustafa said on Sunday that the Ministry is expanding its network of inclusive day centers and early intervention units nationwide in response to rising demand.
During a visit to the Bunyat Center for Special Education, affiliated with the Young Muslim Women's Association, Bani Mustafa announced plans to launch a specialized training center in mid-December, coinciding with the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs meeting in Amman. The new center will serve as a regional model.
The minister was briefed on the center's comprehensive services for people with disabilities, which include early intervention and vocational rehabilitation units, a kindergarten, and a school.
Bani Mustafa described the center as a distinguished model for providing services across all age groups. She noted that the humanitarian, volunteer-based institution, under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sarvath El Hassan, demonstrates pioneering excellence through programs that develop beneficiaries' academic and vocational skills.
She emphasized the center's long-standing achievements and its role as a model for cooperation in enhancing the Ministry's disability programs, stressing the importance of professionalizing social work to provide qualified scientific and practical expertise.
Center Director Bahia Misk outlined the center's services, noting that the facility, established in 1974, addresses the educational and vocational rehabilitation needs of individuals with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorder. The center currently serves 217 beneficiaries.
Misk added that the center empowers students to achieve self-reliance and meaningful social and professional lives through academic programs in reading, writing, arithmetic, science, and language communication, as well as daily life skills. Support services include speech therapy, occupational therapy, guidance, and behavior modification programs.
