Prince of Wales visits severely ill Gaza children treated by NHS

(MENAFN) Prince William recently visited several severely ill children from Gaza who are currently receiving medical care in the UK, as confirmed by a Kensington Palace spokesperson. This visit is part of a broader UK government initiative to provide specialist care for Gazan children, which began in September.

As of November 21, a total of 50 children, along with their families, are being treated under this humanitarian effort, according to statistics from the Department of Health and Social Care. A spokesperson from Kensington Palace shared that the Prince was deeply moved by the bravery displayed by the children and their families throughout their difficult circumstances.

The evacuation of these sick children and their families from Gaza commenced in September, with the identities of the evacuees remaining confidential. A government representative stated that, "The government, in collaboration with partners, organized the medical evacuations from Gaza to the UK over the autumn. Fifty patients, along with their immediate family members, are now receiving care in safe and supportive environments."

In addition to his visit, the Prince recently unveiled a global memorial dedicated to humanitarian aid workers, where he spoke on the importance of humanitarian values. This visit to the children signals Prince William's ongoing commitment to what he has described as a vision of "more empathetic leadership" on the global stage, especially in matters concerning humanitarian efforts.

In a recent appearance on a documentary series, Prince William expressed that "change is on my agenda, change for good," noting that while the changes he advocates for are not radical, they are necessary.

During his visit, a palace spokesperson revealed that Prince William hoped to offer some comfort to the children, many of whom have experienced unimaginable hardship. The Prince also took the opportunity to thank the NHS teams for their exceptional care during such a challenging time. "The Prince was deeply touched by the courage of the children and their families, as well as by the dedication and professionalism of the medical teams supporting them with such humanity," the spokesperson added.

The medical evacuations from Gaza follow Israel's military operation in response to the October 7th attacks by Hamas militants, which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people and the abduction of 251 individuals. Since the outbreak of the conflict, the health ministry in Gaza, which is controlled by Hamas, reports that over 70,000 people have lost their lives in the region.

Although a ceasefire was called on October 10, the violence and its aftermath continue to have a devastating impact on the population.
