Denmark Sets Up “Night Watch” to Track Trump’s Comments

(MENAFN) Denmark has reportedly created a dedicated “night watch” to follow US President Donald Trump’s statements after he insisted earlier this year that Greenland, an autonomous region within the kingdom, should come under US control.

Trump initially proposed purchasing the island in 2019, a suggestion quickly dismissed by both Denmark and Greenland’s authorities. Since returning to office, he has revived the notion, labeling Greenland crucial for national security and refusing to rule out military measures to gain American control.

Copenhagen, which regards the renewed pressure as a direct threat to its sovereignty, has reacted by reinforcing its Arctic defenses and increasing both military and civil surveillance in Greenland.

A report by a media outlet on Wednesday revealed that the Danish Foreign Ministry has gone further by appointing a guard who monitors Trump’s statements each night, ensuring officials stay informed despite the six-hour time difference between Washington and Copenhagen.

The guard’s duty begins at 5 p.m. local time and concludes at 7 a.m. the following morning. By the end of the shift, a report on Trump’s remarks must be compiled and circulated throughout the Danish government.

The guard’s focus is reportedly on Trump’s rhetoric concerning Denmark and Greenland specifically.

Sources told the media outlet that the position was established to reduce pressure on government officials, allowing them to avoid “reaching immediately for their phones” whenever Trump makes announcements, with the night watch keeping them updated around the clock.
