First-Degree Murder Charge Expected After National Guard Incident in Washington

(MENAFN) The individual accused in a deadly shooting that targeted two US National Guard personnel in Washington, DC is now expected to face a first-degree murder charge after one of the victims succumbed to injuries, according to media reports released Friday.

"There are certainly many more charges to come, but we are upgrading the initial charges of assault to murder in the first degree," stated Jeanine Pirro, US attorney for the District of Columbia, during an interview with Fox News.

The incident unfolded at approximately 2:15 p.m. local time (1915GMT) on Wednesday close to the Farragut West Metro station in the nation’s capital.

The two service members — Army Spc. Sarah Beckstrom, 20, and Air Force Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, 24 — both hailing from neighboring West Virginia, were reportedly caught in an ambush.

President Donald Trump announced Beckstrom’s passing on Thursday evening, saying: “She’s no longer with us. She’s looking down at us right now.”

“The other young man is fighting for his life,” Trump added, referring to Wolfe.
