Gaza Humanitarian Foundation ends nine-month mission

(MENAFN) The U.S.- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) announced on Monday that it has concluded its nine-month mission in Gaza, according to reports.

“The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) today announced the successful completion of its emergency mission in Gaza after delivering more than 187 million free meals directly to civilians living in Gaza," the organization said in a statement.

GHF Executive Director John Acree said the organization was "winding down our operations as we have succeeded in our mission of showing there’s a better way to deliver aid to Gazans." He added that the GHF’s approach was being adopted and expanded by the Civil Military Coordination Center (CMCC) and other international organizations after weeks of discussions.
The UN indicated that the development would not impact its own operations. "We never worked with them," UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters.

The GHF, established by the U.S. and Israel as an alternative to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), faced criticism for not meeting planned aid delivery targets. The organization was also scrutinized after attacks targeted civilians waiting at its aid distribution points.

Under the ceasefire agreement reached between Hamas and Israel on October 10, 600 trucks of aid were supposed to enter Gaza daily. Reports indicate that Israel has not fully adhered to this arrangement, carrying out almost daily strikes that have resulted in at least 342 Palestinian deaths since the ceasefire.

Since October 2023, the Israeli military offensive in Gaza has reportedly killed nearly 70,000 people, mostly women and children, and injured over 170,900, leaving much of the enclave devastated.
