(MENAFN) Palestine’s ambassador to the UN said Monday that Palestinians in Gaza continue to face killings and severe restrictions on aid, despite the ongoing ceasefire, urging the UN Security Council to ensure the agreement is fully enforced, according to reports.

Riyad Mansour told the council that Palestinians had “waited desperately for the horrific war against them to end,” emphasizing that they welcomed the ceasefire more than anyone. However, he added, “Palestinians are still being killed and maimed, with aid restricted and reconstruction delayed. Palestinians want all of this to end, and they don't want to lose half of Gaza in the process.”

Mansour reported that around 1,000 Palestinians have been killed or injured since the ceasefire began, noting that “every single day, two Palestinian children are killed by Israel. Nothing can justify that.”

He warned that the ceasefire has repeatedly been at risk of collapse, stating that “at every juncture, the US administration has to intervene, often at the highest level,” to maintain it. Mansour accused Israel of attempting to undermine the truce by delaying aid, resuming attacks, and pushing beyond the so-called yellow line established in the Trump-era 20-point ceasefire plan that began on Oct. 10.

Local authorities report that at least 342 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli army fire since the ceasefire. Mansour called for a permanent ceasefire and a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, asserting that “there must be no occupation, no annexation, no partition of Gaza,” and stressing that Palestinian independence and a two-state solution remain the only viable path to peace.
