France voices deep concern of Israeli attacks on Lebanon
(MENAFN) France expressed “deep concern” on Monday following an Israeli strike on Beirut the previous day, cautioning that the attack could inflame an already volatile regional climate, according to reports.
The strike, which hit the southern suburb of Beirut on Sunday, left five people dead and injured 25 others.
In its statement, France’s Foreign Ministry urged “all parties to exercise restraint,” emphasizing that any further escalation would put civilians on both sides of the border at greater risk. Paris also pressed all involved actors to rely fully on the Ceasefire Monitoring Mechanism, saying it should be used to report potential threats and prevent unilateral moves.
This mechanism—accepted by all parties—is part of the Nov. 27, 2024 cessation of hostilities agreement intended to stabilize the Lebanon-Israel border area. France described the framework as “essential to guarantee the safety of civilian populations in both Lebanon and Israel.”
Reiterating its established stance, Paris reaffirmed its support for Lebanon’s “sovereignty and territorial integrity” and stressed the importance of avoiding actions that could jeopardize the fragile ceasefire.
