Assault on Peshawar Paramilitary HQ Claims Lives in Pakistan

(MENAFN) Three suicide attackers and an equal number of security officials lost their lives during an assault on the headquarters of a paramilitary unit in Peshawar, Pakistan, on Monday morning, according to a senior police officer.

City police chief Mian Saeed informed reporters that the suicide bombers were intercepted while attempting to infiltrate the Federal Constabulary headquarters.

One attacker detonated explosives at the main gate, while two others succeeded in entering the facility, where they were confronted by security forces and neutralized, he stated.

Authorities have secured the vicinity and are carrying out a thorough clearance operation.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the assault and lauded the security personnel for swift measures that protected "precious lives."

In separate messages, both leaders affirmed that the country’s fight against terrorism will persist despite "these cowardly attacks."
