Erdogan to discuss with Putin revival of Black Sea grain corridor
(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he will have a telephone call with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Monday to discuss a possible revival of the Black Sea grain corridor.
Speaking to reporters Sunday on the sidelines of the G20 leaders’ summit in Johannesburg, he explained that Türkiye’s work on restoring the corridor aims “to pave the way for peace."
"I believe that, if we can set this process in motion, it would be highly beneficial," he added.
Ankara previously hosted Russia-Ukraine negotiations in March 2022, shortly after the conflict began, and later facilitated the Black Sea grain deal to help ensure exports of grain and fertilizer from Ukrainian ports during wartime. Russia halted its participation in July 2023.
Commenting on the ongoing conflict in Sudan, Erdogan said the Sudanese people want Türkiye to play a constructive role, declaring: "Wherever there is trouble, we will be there."
"Whether in the Gulf, Sudan, or Somalia, we have been part of these efforts” and will continue expeditious efforts for peace, Erdogan added.
He also said Türkiye “strongly” supports the Palestinian cause, stressing: "We boldly defend the rights of the oppressed people of Gaza on every platform."
Erdogan noted that Ankara has delivered 103,000 tons of humanitarian assistance to residents of Gaza and said Türkiye is doing everything possible to help prevent renewed fighting.
