Pakistan calls Hasina death sentence Bangladesh’s “internal matter”

(MENAFN) Pakistan on Friday described the death sentence handed to former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as an “internal matter,” emphasizing that Dhaka is “fully capable” of managing its own affairs.

Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesman Tahir Hussain Andrabi told reporters in Islamabad that he would not provide detailed comments on the ruling. “This is an internal matter of Bangladesh. The people of Bangladesh are fully capable of addressing their issues in accordance with their own democratic and constitutional processes,” he said.

Hasina, who currently resides in India, was sentenced to death in absentia by a Bangladeshi court on Monday over alleged crimes against humanity during last year’s crackdown on a student-led uprising. The crackdown led to the deaths of more than 1,400 people and ended the Awami League’s 15-year rule.

Andrabi reiterated Pakistan’s position when pressed further, underscoring that the matter remains within Bangladesh’s domestic jurisdiction.
