Zelenskyy consults NATO, EU Leaders on Trump peace plan proposal

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that he engaged in multiple discussions and calls with the NATO Secretary General and top European Union officials to review the 28-point proposal from the United States aimed at ending the war with Russia.

According to reports, Zelenskyy said that the NATO Secretary General extended condolences over Russia’s “horrific attack” on Ternopil, which Ukraine stated resulted in 31 fatalities.

“Ukrainians, more than anyone else in the world, want this war to end, the killings to stop, and a dignified peace to be achieved,” Zelenskyy said, noting that they assessed available diplomatic avenues alongside the American proposal.

He later spoke with senior EU leaders, including the presidents of the European Council and European Commission.

“We all value America’s and President Trump’s commitment to bringing the war to an end, and we are working in concert to ensure this becomes a joint and fully aligned plan,” he said, adding that Ukrainian, American, and European teams will coordinate closely in the coming days.
Zelenskyy also held a phone call with the Lithuanian Defense Minister, covering defense requirements, potential joint production projects, and prospects for a “just end to the war.”

He expressed gratitude to Lithuania for its continued support and for participating in the PURL initiative, which allows Ukraine to obtain US-made weapons.

As stated by reports, the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) program is a US-NATO initiative enabling European and Canadian NATO members to finance the purchase of American weapons for Ukraine.

Ukraine has stepped up diplomatic efforts as the US’s revised 28-point proposal circulates among allied nations.
