(MENAFN) The Netherlands has initiated the dispatch of 300 troops along with two Patriot air-defense batteries to Poland in order to reinforce a NATO logistics center that channels military assistance to Ukraine, Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans stated, according to reports from a news agency on Friday.

The Dutch contingent, which has been arriving in Poland over the past several days, is anticipated to achieve full operational capability by Dec. 1. Brekelmans noted that the mission is scheduled to continue until June 1, 2026.

According to the news agency, Dutch logistics specialists have already begun preparing the grounds where the provisional installation will function.

Operators of the system are expected to arrive shortly and will assume responsibility for supervising Polish airspace surrounding the supply hub — a major issue given a recent series of alleged drone intrusions across European states.

The Netherlands is deploying its newest Patriot variant, featuring enhanced radar technologies and updated software.

The system’s PAC-3 interceptors can engage ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles, with each interceptor valued at roughly €4 million.

In addition, a NASAMS launcher — intended to counter low-altitude dangers — is being sent, together with a separate detachment tasked with protecting the installation from drones.
Col. Olav Spanjer, commander of the Dutch formation overseeing the Patriot batteries, told a broadcaster that regional frictions have intensified in recent months.
