South Korean Authorities Contain Large Blaze

(MENAFN) South Korean officials on Friday fully extinguished a wildfire that had charred approximately 360,000 square meters (89 acres) across the northeastern region of Gangwon, following an intense 17-hour burn.

Hundreds of responders, over two dozen helicopters, and numerous pieces of heavy machinery were mobilized throughout the night after the blaze ignited Thursday afternoon on a hillside in Inje, roughly 132 kilometers (82 miles) east of Seoul, according to a media outlet, which cited government authorities.

No casualties were recorded. Officials stated that 12 residents from nearby homes were relocated as a preventive measure.

A formal inquiry was in progress to identify the cause of the fire and to evaluate the complete scope of the destruction.
