Trump Targets New Orleans in Major Immigration Crackdown
(MENAFN) The Trump administration is reportedly planning a significant immigration enforcement operation in New Orleans, Louisiana, potentially beginning as early as Dec. 1, according to multiple media outlets.
Approximately 200 federal agents are expected to be deployed to the city, media reported, citing internal documents from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The initiative is part of a broader crackdown spearheaded by Border Patrol commander Gregory Bovino.
His teams have previously conducted aggressive enforcement actions in Democratic-led cities such as Chicago, Los Angeles, and most recently, Charlotte, the report said.
In the Charlotte area, where the effort has been nicknamed “Charlotte’s Web,” agents have made more than 200 arrests over the past week, a DHS official told media, noting the operation is anticipated to conclude in the coming days.
Past enforcement actions have sparked protests and accusations of racial profiling and excessive force. Trump administration officials have rejected these claims, insisting that arrests target only suspected immigration violations and noting that agents have encountered violence in some operations.
Bovino has described his teams’ conduct as “exemplary.”
Internal planning documents also indicate that Border Patrol has requested armored vehicles and special operations teams for both Charlotte and New Orleans. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, a Republican and Trump ally, has publicly supported the administration’s enforcement measures.
