Sudanese Army Reports Strategic Advances in Kordofan
(MENAFN) The Sudanese military reported significant progress across the Kordofan region on Tuesday after fresh confrontations with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
According to a military communiqué, army units conducted operations “with high efficiency,” causing “heavy losses in personnel and equipment” for the RSF.
The statement added that multiple “vital sites” had been secured, with troops “redeployed according to a planned operational strategy.”
The army pledged to persist in its campaign against the RSF “until the country is cleansed of rebellion and foreign agendas.”
Earlier on Tuesday, the Joint Force of Armed Movements, a coalition of armed groups allied with the military, announced it had regained control of the Abu Sunun and Abu Qaoud regions in North Kordofan state.
Darfur Governor Minni Arko Minnawi also reported that army forces and allied combatants had defeated the RSF in Jabal Abu Sunun and neighboring areas in North Kordofan.
The rebel faction, however, claimed that its fighters had thwarted army assaults in Jabal Abu Sunun, Jabal Issa, and Al-Ayyara, located west of the provincial capital, El-Obeid.
On Monday, the Sudanese army stated that it had recaptured the Um Sayala area in northern North Kordofan from the RSF.
The escalation follows the RSF takeover of El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, last month, with clashes between the rebel group and the Sudanese army spreading to new fronts, particularly within the central and southern Kordofan region.
