Slovakia Maintains Stance on Supplying Lethal Arms to Ukraine
(MENAFN) Slovakia’s prime minister has reaffirmed his nation’s position of not providing lethal weaponry to Ukraine, as stated in an official announcement on Tuesday.
Robert Fico made these comments during a working dinner with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Bratislava, according to the Slovak government.
Fico highlighted that Slovakia retains the sovereign authority to determine both the pace and composition of its military expenditures.
In the course of their discussions, he also requested that Rutte bolster Slovakia’s air defense capabilities.
The statement noted that the leaders also reviewed the ongoing situation in Ukraine, with Fico reiterating that Slovakia will refrain from sending lethal weapons to Kyiv, except through commercial agreements.
Nevertheless, Slovakia will continue offering non-lethal support.
Earlier in October, the country dispatched its first package of non-lethal defense aid to Ukraine since Fico assumed office in 2023.
