Slovakia reaffirms its refusal to supply lethal weapons to Ukraine

(MENAFN) Slovakia’s prime minister reaffirmed on Tuesday that the country will not provide lethal weapons to Ukraine, according to an official announcement.

The government said Robert Fico delivered the remarks during a working dinner with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Bratislava.

Fico underscored that Slovakia holds the sovereign authority to determine both the pace and composition of its defense spending.

He also requested that Rutte help bolster Slovakia’s air defense capabilities.

The statement noted that the two leaders reviewed the situation in Ukraine, with Fico repeating that Slovakia will not deliver lethal arms to Kyiv aside from existing commercial agreements.

Nonetheless, Slovakia will continue offering non-lethal support.

In early October, Slovakia dispatched its first non-lethal defense package to Ukraine since Fico assumed office in 2023.
