Germany to Resume Weapons Shipments to Israel

(MENAFN) Germany will restart arms exports to Israel beginning November 24, government deputy spokesperson Sebastian Hille informed journalists on Monday.

Deliveries had been halted in August after West Jerusalem announced intentions to occupy Gaza City during its military campaign against Hamas.

Hille explained that conditions on the ground have since become more stable, with a US-supported ceasefire in effect since October 10.

He declined to specify whether Germany, the world’s second-largest supplier of weapons to Israel after the US, might reinstate export limitations if circumstances change.

The spokesperson also did not comment on whether any deliveries requested by Israel were postponed or canceled while the restrictions were active.

When asked about Berlin’s awareness of potential ceasefire breaches or violations of international law by Israel, Hille stated that the government is closely observing the situation and remains “in constant dialogue with the parties involved,” though it has no information about any infractions.

His remarks follow controversial statements from Israeli Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who recently asserted that the Palestinian people have never existed, labeling the nation as “an invention without any historical, archaeological, or factual basis.”

Last week, a media outlet reported that the Israeli military had reportedly sent Palestinian civilians into Hamas tunnels that were suspected to be booby-trapped with explosives during operations in Gaza.
