South Korea to join US in monthlong anti-submarine drills
(MENAFN) South Korea’s Navy announced Monday it will participate in a monthlong joint anti-submarine exercise with the US in Guam, marking the first overseas deployment of its indigenous submarine Ahn Mu.
The Silent Shark exercise, starting Tuesday, will involve the 3,000-ton Ahn Mu, two South Korean P-3 maritime patrol aircraft, and US submarines and P-8A maritime patrol aircraft. The drills aim to strengthen the joint maritime defense posture of both countries.
Separately, South Korea and the US will begin a joint cybersecurity exercise Monday at a Maryland training facility. The second Cyber Alliance drills, running through Friday, will focus on rapid intelligence sharing under simulated cyberattack scenarios.
