Trump ally wants fifty million dollars for past election prosecution

(MENAFN) Former national security adviser Michael Flynn is pursuing a $50 million payment from the US federal government, according to reports referencing newly filed court documents. His claim centers on a prosecution he characterizes as driven by political motives and tied to efforts to dispute the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.

Legal actions previously brought against members of Donald Trump’s circle were part of a wider effort to counter attempts to overturn the election, as noted by reports, including inquiries linked to the January 6 events at the Capitol. Throughout that period, Trump and his supporters continued to assert allegations of fraud after Joe Biden won the vote.

According to reports, the Department of Justice is now in discussions to potentially resolve Flynn’s claim—marking a departure from the stance of the earlier administration, during which government attorneys opposed the lawsuit.

In addition to Flynn’s complaint, the agency is also said to be exploring a settlement with former senior White House attorney Stefan Passantino, who contends that an official inquiry into the 2020 election and the Capitol riot harmed his reputation after confidential details were disclosed without authorization.
