Putin hold talks with Israeli PM on Gaza’s situation
(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday to review the latest developments in Gaza and broader regional issues, according to general reports from the Kremlin.
The Kremlin said in a statement that "A thorough exchange of views took place concerning the situation in the Middle Eastern region, including developments in the Gaza Strip in the context of implementing the ceasefire agreement and the exchange of detained persons, the status quo around Iran's nuclear program, and issues related to contributing towards further stabilization in Syria."
Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, launched in October 2023, has killed more than 69,000 people — the majority women and children — and has left much of the territory destroyed, according to available reporting.
A ceasefire arrangement between Hamas and Israel began on Oct. 10. Under the first phase of the agreement, Israeli captives are to be freed in exchange for Palestinian detainees. The broader plan also includes reconstruction efforts in Gaza and the creation of a new administrative structure that would exclude Hamas from governance.
