Syrian President Engages with World Leaders at COP30


(MENAFN) Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa held discussions on Friday with a number of international leaders on the margins of the COP30 climate summit in Belem, Brazil.

According to a state-operated Syrian news agency Sharaa met with French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and Dutch Premier Dick Schoof.

In addition, he held talks with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Finnish President Alexander Stubb.

The meetings were joined by Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, while Local Administration and Environment Minister Mohammad Anjarani participated in the discussions with the Dutch prime minister, the news agency reported.

The agency did not reveal specifics regarding the content of the conversations.

Sharaa and his delegation are attending the heads of state portion of COP30, marking the first occasion a Syrian president has taken part in a UN climate conference since the initiative began in 1995.
